Allow yourself to be surprised.

Allow yourself to be surprised. This was one of the strongest messages to emerge during my first private in-home reading event this past weekend.
I met the organizer earlier this year at a holistic fair. We got along famously. She was with a few of her close friends. Over the course of the weekend, we bonded and shared stories. So it wasn’t a surprise when she reached out to me in early June and said, "I have an idea."
Even then, I could sense she was someone who valued genuine connection.
I’ll admit I was nervous. I wondered how the readings would be received and I hoped people would feel comfortable.
Giving readings at an event with multiple vendors is a completely different experience from being the only source of entertainment for a group. In that setting, all eyes are on you. The energy feels more focused and the responsibility is greater.
With that said, the event and its participants truly surprised me. The attendees were polite. They were engaged and genuinely receptive. I felt welcomed in a way that put me at ease.
I began the event with a brief introduction. Then, I led everyone through a gentle breathing exercise, encouraging them to release expectations and simply be open to receiving. To my delight, that is exactly what happened.
During each reading, I invited the audience to be part of the experience. This created an atmosphere that felt both intimate and inclusive. People listened, nodded and sometimes even offered gentle words of support. What began as individual readings slowly became a shared experience.
What struck me most was how supportive and attentive everyone was. There were moments when we were all moved to tears. We stood together in solidarity with the person receiving the reading. We also felt a deep resonance as the messages touched something inside each of us.
Another strong theme that emerged was the idea of giving an old dream a second chance. Sometimes life changes, circumstances shift or unexpected challenges force us to set a dream aside. When the opportunity returns, it's natural to feel excitement, but it's equally important to approach it with fresh eyes. You are no longer the same person you were before. The wisdom you've gained deserves to shape what comes next. Release any shame for the path that wasn't taken, allow your vision to evolve and trust that growth often asks us to begin again, not from the beginning, but from experience.
One unexpected moment came when I shared that Roar of Rebirth was born from more than twenty years of journaling, healing and shadow work. As I spoke, I found myself becoming emotional. Looking around the room, I realized I wasn't the only one. In that moment, the journal stopped being simply something I had created and became a story we were sharing together.
In total, there were eighteen women. At times, it felt like I was giving mini TED Talks. Everyone and I mean everyone, was deeply engaged. There were no side conversations at all. It truly felt like a community. A circle of women seeking inspiration and direction. The sense of togetherness was powerful and left a lasting impression on me.
As I left that evening, I realized just how much beauty there is in welcoming the unexpected. I was truly surprised by the kindness, the honesty and the depth of connection we all shared. Now, I find myself looking forward to the next unexpected moment, ready to allow myself to be surprised all over again. If this experience reminded me of anything, it's that some of life's most meaningful moments arrive unannounced. All we can do is remain open enough to recognize them when they do.
Allow yourself to be surprised.
